If you buy a garage door opener that is made from the right material, it will last for many years with proper maintenance. You will find some homes that have had their garage doors for well over 20 years. Though it is typical for well made doors to exist so long, same longevity cannot be expected in door openers as they are the ones that do the bulk of the work day-in and day-out. It is common for these materials to get worn out over time. It is possible for the entire door system to stop working whenever one part fails. You certainly wouldn’t appreciate whenever this happens. Fraying Cables
Observing the cables that are laid on door tracks will give you an idea when exactly you can replace them. The cables are responsible for doing most of the work whenever your door opens, so they can easily become worn. If the cables ever snap, then you will certainly have a difficult time opening and closing your door with ease.
Security Sensors
It became mandated by a 1993 law that all garage doors have a security sensor. These sensors produce an infrared beam that travels beneath the doors. If the door is operating and the beam is interrupted, the door will stop closing and open back up. With the help of these sensors, people and animals will be less likely to be crushed beneath the door.
Loose Springs
Garage doors weigh a lot and the springs in them help lift all of this weight. Over time, the springs will become weak and brittle. With springs that aren’t functioning properly, the garage door opener will have to work extra hard. This will cause the motor to become worn out very quickly.
